First rug... [Apr. 3rd, 2004|08:06 pm]
Cutting a Rug

I finished my first ever throw rug last weekend.

It's not overly exciting. Most importantly, I wanted to know IF a functional and thick rug could actually be knitted, as I've always been very unimpressed with the knitted rugs I've run across in books and stores. And, the verdict is 'yes,' it just takes double yarn knit tightly. This one was made with 100% wool and done purely in garter stitch. The blue I purchased on clearance at Yarn Forward and the rest of the colours are scraps of lopi left over in my knitting basket. Now that I've made one, I can envision more varied patterns and designs for the future. I can see that socks have an up and coming rival for my obsessiveness.

I think I should try these photos in better light tomorrow. It was a grey dismal day here today.

Hey Gannet!

Just for inside our porch door. It's actually a portfolio project as well; 'create something functional that would be used around the house.'

Since I'm fascinated by rugs, it was perfect for me to give it a go.

Good to see you!
